BB2.6-Large-Scale Testing (Outdoor Facility)

Ole Martin Løvvik

  • Description

Characterization of performance of advanced active transparent/opaque façades in outdoor operating conditions.

  • Standardisation

Testing follow reference standards in the sector (es. EN standards), in special cases development of single testing protocols. For performance of dynamic facades additional KPIs will be adopted, which are not standardised, on a case by case basis, depending on the features of the technology to test.

  • Innovation features

TWINS is an outdoor test facility made of twin cell for comparative test reasons, and with virtual digital twin for benchmarking and real time scenario optimisation (i.e. for contro if needed). The procedures and the eventual benchmarks adopted ensure accuracy and replicability of the results.

Pricing

Case dy Case
consumables: fixed cost 1 keuro; monthly cost of facility : 1-2 keuro (operation and maintenance, depending on lengh of test and additional sensors); 1PM (4.5 keuro) equivalent (testing);

Service delivery timeframe

Long therm, minimum testing time is 2-3 months, up to 9-18 months depending on needs

  • Relevant Industry

Building conponent sector - companies that produce facedes, external wall components (mainly transparent but also opaque possible), responsive and dynamic facade technologies, facade integrated solar technologies, HVAC integrated facade technologies

Supporting Services

BB2 services

  • Value proposition

Benefits for component manufacturers who want to assess performance in real climate.

  • Environmental and social impact

The service aims to understand the final impact on building performance (in a specific market of application). Therefore this service aligns with EU sustainability goals by enabling the development of more durable, energy-efficient products. It fosters innovation in sustainable design and contributes to reducing environmental footprint while promoting better socio-economic outcomes by supporting industries in meeting regulatory and market demands.

  • Geographical and/or infraestructure restrictions

Facility is in the premises of the partners, South oriented in geographical location representative of a temperate climate with balanced heating and cooling needs

  • Service Support

KoM meeting to define customer needs, KPIs to assess, possible procedures and design of experiments - Follow up meetings to validate procedures - Follow-up meetings for interim and final results - Final report with results.
