BB2.12-Living Laboratory Testing

Ole Martin Løvvik

  • Description

Different performance assessments of a full scale prototype/demonstrator (transparent/opaque facade, interior elements) involving user interaction and user feedback (in a residential/office setting)

  • Standardisation

There is no standard related to the testing with occupants iteself and the related design of experiment. Nevertheless the performance characterisation and the subjective monitoring through questionnaire will use the reference standards with the sector (EN and ISO standards), and the best practises in research (including ethical standards and processes where people are present in the experiments.

  • Innovation features

Validation in real environment with people

Pricing

NTNU LL will not be available before the end of 2025

Service delivery timeframe

Case by Cases - Long term, depending on the technology and amount of people involved, tests could take from minimum of 2-3 months (including planning and set-up of experiments), up to 12-18 months

  • Relevant Industry

Building Industry (scaling up of building envelope materials and components, for integration in both opaque and transparents building envelope elements), IEQ Applications, Building Services (HVAC) and related smart control, IoT and intelligent sensors related to buildings

Providers

POLITO, EURECAT

NTNU, POLITO, EUT, TUD

Supporting Services

BB2 services

  • Value proposition

Validation of technologies with building occupants, integration of controls with occupants, impact on occupant comfort and performance

  • Environmental and social impact

The service aims to understand the final impact on building occupants, and building performance (in a specific market of application). Moreover it aims to maximise the integration within the building and with occupants, so to guarantee a robust technology and ensuring a minimum achievable impact when building integrated. This could be achieved also by feedbacks towards the design of the product and the technology, taking into considerations the results of the tests.

  • Geographical and/or infraestructure restrictions

The labs are located in the premises of the partners
EURECAT is representative of a mediterean climate, cooling dominated - 40° N latitude daylighting conditions;
POLITO is presentative of a temperate / continental climate with balance needs for heating and cooling - 45° N latitude daylighting conditions;
NTNU is presentative of a nordic climate heating dominated - 63° N latitude nordic sky daylight conditions

  • Service Support

KoM meeting to define customer needs, KPIs to assess, possible procedures and design of experiments - Follow up meetings to validate procedures - Follow-up meetings for interim and final results - Final report with results
